Caley Martin presents: sonic:torsion
“Caley Martin is a man of many talents. One such talent is having 13-year-old boys on Myspace mistake heavily edited photos of his ass cheeks for a pair of large boobs.
However, you probably don’t care about that, and are interested more in whether or not he plays good music. So let’s get that out of the way now. He’s good. You should listen to him, lavish praise on him, see him spin at clubs, and generally just throw money at him.
You could call Caley somewhat of a minimal techno DJ. You could also call him a house DJ, or a tech-house DJ. You could also call him “Hey Assholeâ€, or “Bitchâ€, but that’s not really very helpful in illuminating what kind of music he plays. Caley’s a member of the somewhat rarer breed of DJs who aren’t predominantly focused on one genre, or tied to the notion of “keeping it danceableâ€. His sets are more on the deeper end of things, being contemplative, brooding, and immersive. Which isn’t to say he can’t deliver some intensely funky moments, though. I’m pretty sure having a dance floor chanting your city of origin’s name while watching you mix qualifies as some kind of support for that statement.
Anyhow, if the DJing styles of Sean Cusick, Magda, Jimmy Van M, older Phil Thompson, or Tim Skinner would be something you’re a fan of, you’d do well to check him out.â€
