So for you my friends i give you one dj/producer that has been just on fire for the last couple of years, with releases all over the underground spectrum and some of the most impressive dj and live sets, my friends, i give you:::

Mikael Stavostrand(SunsetDiskos/GetPhysical/Spectral)

Mikael Stavostrand has been lauded as a key figure of the Swedish electronic music scene for his unique interpretations of minimal club techno as well as for producing some of the most essential experimental electronic music of the past years. Stavöstrand mixes deconstructed sounds with funky little beats to create minimal dance textures. On his debut album on Force Inc., “Reduce”, swarms of glitches, crackles and skips infiltrate the 4/4 drive formula of minimal techno. As Vita, his “Vita” 12″ on Force Inc. imprint Force Labs was welcomed by critical praise and became one of the best selling releases with its digitalized organic groove.

He started to produce music in the early nineties, but back then he was a part of the industrial scene and released some now labeled as “classic” records under different names. Lately due to a lot of demand from different labels, he agreed to allow reissues of these early works.

After that period he got more interested into sound research and minimalism, which also led to a couple of CD releases on labels as Staalplaat in The Netherlands to name a few. In 2000 he became more focused on bringing his experiences and sound from the pure minimal scene into a more club context, so he started to work with minimal techno sounds, which immediately resulted with releases on Force Inc. in Germany.

He has released over 40 12″ Ep’s and 19 Albums (CD, DLP, LP) so far and he has been featured on many compilation and mix records. He is also a sought after as a remix artist.

The last years he has been playing live around the world at respected clubs such as Fabric, Panorama Bar, Avalon, Weekend, Watergate, Fuse, Otto Zuts, Batofar, Rex, Cargo, Cocoliche, Mandarine, Mighty, Arma, Mutek, Decibel, Resolute, King King, 222, Brancaleone and many more.

Between 2000 to 2007 he ran the record label Mitek. Mitek’s aim was to produce and promote upcoming Swedish talents in the field of electronic music. In the years Mitek produced 22 records with different kinds of electronic music, from avant-garde to club. Mitek often received grants from The Swedish Art Council to produce the records.

In the summer of 2006 he also started his new label “Sunset Diskos”. This label is purely for club music and deep, funky minimal tunes are the aim here. With artists such as himself, [a]pendics shuffle, agaric & Bulgur Brothers, Pheek and Franco Cinelli.

Now he has released by Highgrade [DE], Kindisch/Get Physical [DE], Spectral Sound [US], Minisketch [IT], Adjunct [US], Lick My Deck [UK], Sounderground [UK] We Are [SE], Sushitech [UK], Thema [US] and others, with more exciting prospects on the way soon.

He has licensed tracks for Fabric mix CD’s (Audion & Steve Bug), mix cd’s by James Holden, Tanja Vulcano, Steve Bug, Agoria and more. His music is heavily played by Dj’s such as Matthew Dear, MANDY, Steve Bug, Alexkidd, Claude Von Stroke, Ricardo Villalobos, DJ T, Ryan Elliot, Jeff Samuel, Tanya Vulcano, Marco Carola, Dinky, Butane, Jeff Milligan, Dubfire, Troy Pierce, Magda, Ryan Crosson, Mark Henning, Miss Fitz, and Jay Haze to name a few.

Ahhhh yes,  the good ol Tecate, one of Mexico’s “better” beers, granted, Corona being the king of mexican beers(i totally disagree with that claim, since Corona has to be one of the weakest beers in the market).

Keeping up with the whole climate change, global warming, going green, etc etc, i decided to taste one of those “Organic” beers, Pinkus, and let me tell you, i think i enjoyed it a lot, i mean, this beer had this really good flavor to it, plus it has a very respectable amount of alcohol in it, i mean, i didnt really try to get drunk with it, since i only had 2 of them, but let me tell you, just by drinking those 2 beers i actually felt pretty damn good, so probably next time ill try and drink at least 4. So in conclusion, i would really recommend this awesomely tasting treat, which its a bit expensive, but hey, remember, you basically get what you paid for, so dont whine and just get drunk!

Ok, now back to the musical part of this marvelous journey, as you already know, i usually host big ass talent, well this is not the exception, today i have as guest one dude that is ripping the production industry as we speak, putting out tracks like there is no tomorrow, i mean this guy is busting is way into the whole minimal scene one huge track at a time, here you have it folks, for those of you that know minimal, you my dears, then know who Heron is::

Limikola / Synewave / Munster, Germany

When baby Heron was born in Thuringia in 1982, he was already sucking on the silver spoon of music: His grandfather played various instruments, his cousins played in rock bands, and as early as 1986, little Heron had already found his first musical obsession in Creedence Clearwater Revival. Three years later, following his cousins’ passion, he turned towards AC/DC, soon discovering Black-, Death- and Trash Metal, then moved on to the spheres of EBM and Industrial and finally stumbled across Detroit Techno. Immensly impressed by Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May and the X-Mix Series, especially those of Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva, he soon made his first efforts in dj-ing and producing with Sonic Foundry Acid and Fruity Loops. He moved to Münster in 2005, which he found to be an even greater inspiration, meeting Jan Senn alias Senn, with whom he soon started the project “Fossil Fuel”, and who also provided him with basic knowledge of Reason. But, as he soon felt like he couldn’t express himself properly with this software, he started working with Ableton Live, which, with it’s various algorithms and plugins, enabled him to realise his visions of music and finally give birth to his very own particular style by the end of 2007. In February 2008, his first three tracks were released on Minisome, his second ep followed in April. This second ep, “Retro”, was so very successful (being played by Richie Hawtin at Time Warp and other venues, by Damon Wild, Fabrizio Maurizi and various other artists), that DBH Music finally contacted him to re-release the tracks on vinyl.

Together with four friends – two other musicians and two graphic designers – he founded °Schaltkreis in 2007 – a series of minimal parties with Heron, Jan Senn and Nicetry as residents, a unique interiour design, video installations and, of course, various international guest-djs like Miskate, Dr.Nojoke, DEN, Pheek or Barem. °Schaltkreis has become famous for its unique style and is now one of the most impressive techno partys around Münster.

His tracks were played and supported by big names like Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin, The Advent, Bryan Zentz, Troy Pierce, Danilo Vigorito, Stephan Bodzin, Camea, Alland Byallo, Xpansul, Chris Liebing, Magda, Pan-Pot, Tim Xavier, Fabrizio Maurizi, Joseph Capriati, Steve Stoll, Damon Wild, Matt Star, Someone Else, Nihad Tule, Emerson and many more …

On other news, the year at least for me has started on a good note, got some things here at home all fixed up, like both of my cars, also, the family couldnt be better, my two boys are growing insanely fast, and my adventures as a dj keep being fun as hell, yeah, you could say that life for the Prospero family is looking good, obviously not as great as we would want to, but hey, one day we’ll get to be rich, not famous, just rich.

Whether house or techno his tracks have consistently earned praise from tastemakers like Luciano, Sven Väth or Laurent Garnier and earned him bookings at Berlin’s Panorama Bar, Watergate and Bar 25, London’s Circo Loco and TDK Cross Central festival, Amsterdam’s Studio 80, Munich’s Registratur, Italy’s Kama Kama, Brazil’s Warung Club and D’Edge, Manchester’s Tribal Sessions, Spain’s Nitsa as well as a residency for Bristol/London based party Bump.

Now living in Berlin, the Irish born, one time Londoner was tipped by Carl Cox to be one of his Heroes of 2009 on his Global radio show at the start of the year. Since his move to Berlin he has released EPs and tracks on Leftroom, Paradigma, Get Physical, Kindisch, Cocoon and Cadenza. As a remixer he’s turned his hand to tracks by artists like UNKLE and Sasse as well as remixed for labels like Bauns, Meerestief, Fade and Get Physical.

In June he submitted a mix for the hugely influential Ibiza Voice podcast series adding to a long list of mixes he’s created for stations and podcasts like London’s taste making Allez Allez, Carl Cox’s Global radio show, Kiss 100, Galaxy FM among others.

Perhaps its thanks to a youth spent lost in the experimental rock of bands like Sonic Youth, Rage Against The Machine and Fugazi before uncovering electronic music during an eye opening trip to England at the early age of 13 that’s lead to his obsession with futuristic music.

During this pivotal trip he remembers in particular hearing early drum ’n’ bass on a north London pirate radio station. “It sounded like the future being beamed down the radio waves,” he says. “and I’ve been chasing it ever since.”

Ok, so now we go to part 2,  which is by a very very talented dj/producer who is basically releasing tracks on some of the best labels out there, Mr. Argenis Brito, all the way from Caracas Venezuela.

A professional musician, trained singer, passionate producer and smart innovator, Argenis Brito is reliably
rolling up the lush fields of music for quite a while now. Listeners will be surprised at the wide range of
activities he has been involved in to date. Having travelled the path of success in an unconventional way, many
music genres and the world anyway, his influences are multifaceted, continuously charging and refreshing his
source of inspiration with the scintillating splendour of creative energy.

The name Argenis Brito is intrinsically tied to the genre of Latinotronics. Not only did the year 2000 mark the
beginning of a new millenium, but also a highlight of this seminal style: Founded together with Chilean
producer and longtime friend Pier Bucci, Mambotur affected the sensually loaded, dancing body of the
crowd with a fresh emotional approach, blending the lively percussive dynamics of Mambo, Cumbia and Salsa
with sophisticated electronic progression, and adding a Dub flavour. In doing so, Mambotur were rushing the
Trans-Latino-Express through software wonderland, indeed. The duo released two albums, “Atina Latino”
(2002), and “Al Frente” (2005), and performed major venues and festivals all over Europe.
Besides, forging new links within the big Chile connection, a trio was formed in between by uniting with Swiss-
Chilean producer Luciano who co-produced four tracks for the collective project Monne Automne.
In 2002 Argenis Brito relocated to Berlin, his last domicile of creation so far. In the vibrant, atmosphere of this
exceptionally prolific metropolis he found the ideal inspiration for pushing the boundaries of club culture.
Offering some Latin musical gene exchange, it goes without saying that he quickly aligned with like- and openminded
musicians and producers to participate in several projects – one of them Jay Haze of Contexterrior
media. A lot of new visions with a strong leaning towards reduced, cutting-edge, funky club structures were
realized: Krak Street Boys (w/J.H.), The Basstards (w/J.H. and Jamming Unit of Air Liquide), Bearback
(w/J.H. and Samim), Samim vs. Argenix, and Maluco (w/Pier Bucci and Max Loderbauer of Sun Electric
and Chica and the Folder). Since then, Argenis keeps feeding his machines with the finest power and continues
performing together with renowned DJs and producers of the global electronic club music network, who are as
advanced as himself.
In April 2006 Argenis Brito released his first solo work “Sentidos Opuestos”, followed by the double EP “Micro
Mundo” on Swiss imprint Cadenza and the “Imminent” EP lately. Further releases of all projects he has been
involved in, include records on acclaimed platforms as Multicolor Recordings, Lo-Fi Recordings, Crosstown
Rebels, Tuning Spork, Disko B, Essay, Cadenza, Karaoke Kalk, among others.

Oh and about the beer of the month, a couple of weeks ago, i was able to buy a couple of bottles of Lindemans Framboise, and let me tell you, that shit is goooood, plus when you combine it with some of that Chocolate Stout Beer, then things get even more interesting, i mean, this is no “getting wasted” kind of beer, just imagining the type of hangover that shit could cause its kind of scary. So whenever you’re feeling a bit fruity and need a nice tasting beer, go ahead and get yourself one of these babies.

Community, the second album under the Fairmont moniker (and Jake’s fourth longplayer overall). The 2007 update of the Fairmont sound showcases the true depth and variety of Jake Fairley’s talent, uniting his trademark driving analogue machine-funk with intimate, hypnotic vocals, elasticated rhythms, woozy, warm interludes and drugged out highs, with the iconic dongs of discordance and stretchy synths of remarkable new single ‘Flight of the Albatross’ acting as a fitting precursor of things to come. From the demented-surf-rock-electro of ‘Bikini Atoll’ and the wobbly Velvets heroin-drone-trance of ‘I Need Medicine’ to the mellow folk-hop of ‘Calm Before The Storm’ and the spacey apocalyptic low end of John Carpenter-esque ‘Sedatives for the Sentimental’, it is perhaps the less obviously classifiable tracks and the more deviant moments of ‘Coloured in Memory’ where the album truly shines and the broad scope of Jake’s vision is revealed. The Fairmont live show meanwhile is currently on the road across Europe and beyond.

Anton Kubikov was born in 1975 in Moscow. He started his career in 1994 playing at one of the first Moscow techno clubs – Ermitage. From January 1995 until January 1996 he was a resident in Relax club in Moscow.

Very soon he became a popular figure at the Moscow DJ scene and was constantly invited to perform at such popular Moscow clubs like Treasure Island, Metro, Moby Dick, Ptuch, Utopy, X-Dance and others.
In 1995 he created his own radio show on the popular Russian FM station “Station 2000″. This radio station was exclusively devoted to modern trends of electronic music. Until present time for more than 6 years this show is the most popular Techno show on the air in Russia. Now radio is closed DJ Kubikov is focused on Tech-House, Minimal, Deep.
In 1997 DJ Kubikov was focused on his own musical career. His personal projects ScSi-9, MULTIPLIAR, HeroCityMovers, SNOWBOARDER became very popular with the Moscow underground electronic scene.

Harry Axt first emerged as an artist in 2004 and made waves with his first release on Grand Petrol, “Harry Axt… Spielt Auf Der Schnorchelsäge”. Early on, the unique combination of slick sounds and and an unmistakable, cutting humor defined (and continues to define) his music. The next couple of years gave way to more undeniably ingenious releases on Leftroom, Kiddaz.fm, and Rompecabeza. The natural progression to a full album will be actualized in Spring 2009 with his release, “Planet Axt” on Rompecabeza. Never content with spending all his time in the studio, Harry’s DJ sets are renowned for tearing up a crowd no matter what time of night, and notorious for taking things to the next level. Luckily this year there will be enough opportunities to hear both Harry Axt’s newest productions and club sets to satisfy even the most dedicated dance floor devotee.

First off we have Mr. Eyerer who i really dont think needs any introduction, but hey, heres the info so you can read a bit about the man himself:

Martin Eyerer

When Martin Eyerer tells a story, everybody listens. Martin reports of his journeys throughout the continents, telling stories of wild escapades in a taxi across the Brazilian jungle through to the impressions of Earth’s capitals and the colourful array of citizens that inhabit them, and obviously of his many Gigs in these foreign lands. Those foreign places quickly become familiar territory when he sets up his digital DJ-system and starts to play that thumping first track because what he plays is groovy Tech House and the sound is a world language of its own that is euphorically absorbed through sweaty pores and pumping glands.

His passion is eminently clear when he starts to talk about his experiences and such is his passion and enthusiasm for the music that one could easily think it was all totally new to him. But it isn’t. Martin Eyerer has been a DJ for 20 years – and just as many years a producer, label owner, radio show producer. Throw in his two young children and it seems that the energy never leaves his side.

Martin Eyerer is not a laptop artist, but a true musician. His high-end studio meets the highest requirements and has become an interdisciplinary interface for mastering (whether it is Hip Hop, Pop or Electronic) and he is also co-producing several mainstream acts (Eyerer e.g.became a gold record in UK). On top of all this, the Tech-House Posse around him like Gui Boratto,Oliver Koletzki, Toni Rios, Stephan Hinz, Namito, Chopstick, Oliver Klein or Robert Babicz come to ‘his house’ to jam. It is a small circle of friends who share the same musical interest and who put 200% in to every release they do.

Whether collaborations, solo Works, Remixes or Compilations, all his works appear almost monthly on dance-floor dominating labels, like Kling KLong,Systematic,Audiomatique,
Great Stuff, Kickboxer and on English big names like Renaissance or i/o records. The most unbelievable aspect of this is the variety of styles Martin stands for. There is no segment from Deep house to minimal Techno that Eyerer is not in control of, always keeping his focus on the dance-floor. This consistently high-quality of output results in rocking world-wide floor-fillers, spun by the most well-known DJs. Beyond that, hits like Make My Day (Haunting) by Eyerer and Chopstick feat. Zdar/Cassius made their way into the A-rotation of English music television.

As an important platform for his music Martin Eyerer has founded his own labels – Kling Klong and Session Deluxe. Due to the conscientious release policy (releasing artists like Koletzki, Namito, Oliver Klein, Babicz and Eyerer himself the Label boss  was able to establish an independent sound between electro, minimal and tech-house on Kling Klong and more tooly, housy and underground on Session Deluxe. Releases of both Labels always enter the top 20 of all sales and download charts for electronic music.

Peak time is the best time in a DJ-set, but in Martin Eyerers opinion, you have to work for it as a DJ – there is no way to force it. With that philosophy he builds up his sets, using the newest material and unfolds an oppressive, sizable Groove. Martin Eyerer does not try to get through the night with the current hits. Instead, he travels his very own sound-spectrum in one intuitively construed DJ-set. These legendary sets make their way around the globe resulting in Martin playing regularly in all parts of the world.

But Martin wants to reach more people than only those who frequent nightclubs. That’s why he regularly works on mix compilations, e.g. his own series on Session Deluxe. He has also set up same called Session De Luxe – a national weekly radio-show that goes out live every Sunday evening on Sunshine live – Germany’s biggest station for dance music, and it’s on this platform that Eyerer presents all the latest releases for his hungry following to devour as they polish of their weekend’s activities on sofas, in bedrooms or in the car on their way home after visiting their parents for Sunday lunch in the country. By himself or with guests like e.g. Bodzin, Anthony Rother, Chardronnet, Huntemann, Gregor Tresher, Abe Duque, Thomas Schumacher, John Selway or Shlomi Aber, Session de Luxe never disappoints. But not only are the monologues important – Martin also involves the listeners, giving everyone the chance to ask questions about anything concerning dance music.

In 2008 he released his debut Album on Kling Klong named Word Of Mouth.
It was the next step in establishing him as an international player. The album was released in 12 countries and exported to all the world. Feedback from the  media was overwhealming. This  and the fact that Martin was supported with plays and respect by most of the international dj league lead to a more than expected number of sales.
All in all Word Of Mouth was a big success. Martins first single out of the album “furthermore” came along with mixes by Marc Romboy and Oliver Klein. The next follow up will be cave canem incl mixes by Gui Boratto, Robert babicz and Someone Else.
For 2009 already dj gigs and tours are booked for Brasil,Argentina,Chile, Mexico,China,Japan,India and Australia. Also scheduled studiodates with a few other famous artists and finally martin will start working on his second longplayer in Autumn.

Gorge

Gorge aka Pit Waldmann expired electronic music in the late 80’s. He grew up with the sound of Thorsten Fenslau and Alexander Abraham and began to produce his own music in the middle of the 90’s. Taking a trip through all kinds of electronic music he finally came back to house and techno music influenced by deep Chicago house sound and techhouse.

In 2005 he met Nick Curly and started the imprint 8bit records which grew up to a worldwide respected label with artists like Johnny D, Sis, Afrilounge, Gruber & Nuernberg, Audiofly, Peace Division and many newcomers always trusting in an own special sound fitting to the basic sound of the label. His own productions and remixes appear on labels like Destined Records, Suruba, Murmur, Plastic City, Freerange, 8bit, Ministry of Sound and with his radio partner Greg Silver on Yellow Tail Records. Together with Greg Silver he presents the “Plastic City Radio Show” on Sonica Radio Ibiza, and the sunshine live house edition on radio sunshine live.

Seth was placed on earth as a weeping fetus, the sound of inevitability. As he grew, his ancestral roots took on a magnetic channeling power, more than his feeble mind could ever consciously fathom. As a result, he became capable of creating some of the world’s finest and most intuitive dance cuts, including releases on FXHE, Esperanza and his hits “Satisfy” and “Love Berzereker” on Beretta Grey, and upcoming releases on Dumb Unit and Spectral in early 2007. Joseph Capriati, begins to approach the world of dj-ing in 1998 at the age of 11 with the passion for hip hop and classic house. From 1999 to 2004 he performs in some clubs in south Italy and supports various international dj’s growing musically and converted to music that will transform him totally: the techno! In 2005, begins his interest in the music production, the desire to create their own music and to play it. He began to learn the use of music-programms in a recording studio of his friend until does not buy his first sound card and midi keybord and begins to work on their own. During one year can release its first tracks. In 2006 becomes resident DJ of the new club “underground” of his city , “Disco Seven” where perform with some best DJ’s of techno scene and here knows the owner of the GLOBOX, who decides to release his first vinyl named “Formaldehyde” with the side B entitled “Microbiotik” that will take a great success and will be played by DJ’s like Richie Hawtin, Magda, Paco Osuna. In the end of 2007 Joseph debuted on Analytic Trail with “C’est la vie”. With this track Joseph Capriati was strongly one of the most top charts producers. In 2008 he met Alex Under on Cmyk with the track “Giallo Canarino” and run to the “Neapolitan techno school”: with Rino Cerrone created the EP “Orange” on Loose rec and “Unrilis 02” and together with Markantonio “Round Zero” on MKT, while with Uto Karem produced “Agile 02”. In 2008 too Joseph together with Markantonio created “Codice Morse” for Alchemy rec., the famous label of Mauro Picotto,that was played by the most important artists and included in many collections, and after on Analytic Trail the hit “Molotov” choiced by Richie Hawtin for first track in his live set from summer to winter and played like first track too at Love Parade! After a long tour in Europe,USA and South America between the best clubs and in festivals like Awakenings,Joseph come back in studio and realizes an EP for CLR one of best techno labels in the world by Chris Liebing that released it in February 2009,with tracks “Login” and “Passworld”. Soon Joseph will have his debut on one of the best and storic techno label of the world: DRUMCODE of the pioneer Adam Beyer,with 2 tracks on vinyl “Sidechains” and “Kontrol room” plus other 4 tracks in ditigital exclusive! Some of his ispiration’s artists are Speedy J,Adam Beyer,Richie Hawtin,Marco Carola,Paco Osuna,Rino Cerrone,Danilo Vigorito,Markantonio etc… Currently is working on new tracks and researching new sounds!

Håkan Lidbo has 10 years experience as a pop and dance music producer and has more than 60 records in his discography, most of them in a tech-house/deep house vein. He’s also managed Swedish record labels MNW Dance and Left < > Right Recordings, and done a slew of remix and co-production work. Currently, he runs Container Recordings with John Anderrson and continues to augment his prolific output.

So, for the last couple of days ive been really thinking about life, about how things are just moving along in our lives, you know, politics, economy and all that crap that really gets you worried at times; here in town things havent been that bad, considering how things are across the border in Mexico, and to tell you the truth, its been depressing me for the longest time, i used to love going to Mexico and just having so much fun, now, its just imposible, way to much shit going down, i think its been close to 2000 deaths in 2008 alone done execution style by the drug cartels, so, dont think im going on a mexican vacation any time soon, and to all you my Mexican friends, please be safe.

Ok, now to the music part of our little show, this month im freakin excited since i have a monster of a guest, and i dont mean that in any bad way, i mean it in the monster as in “this guy is freaking huge, i mean, scary huge”, so ence the amount of excitedness on my behalf, so without further athou i give you:::

Robert Babicz

A Cheerful Temper”, the name of Robert Babicz’s debut album for Systematic Recordings is arguably the best way to describe the Cologne based Pole. Answering the question why he is choosing this specific name, Babicz explains that he feels caught between two worlds: “The real world of everyday life and a surreal dream world comparable to the backdrop of a fairy tale.” Robert’s musical career starts out quite exceptionally and indeed rather fabulously in the early 90s. Right after the phenomenon of Chicago and deep house, techno began to establish itself as a brand new and totally original part of youth culture. In 1989, the year the wall came down, Berlin sees the first big techno happenings like Love Parade and Teknozid. But Cologne
also sees many new clubs like the Space club or the Sweatbox. Pioneers of these days were Reinhard and Wolfgang Voigt (now running the Kompakt empire), The Modernist, Mate Galic, Roland Casper and Rob Acid (aka Robert Babicz). Robert’s first release “Happy answer” becomes an unexpectedly big hit. Especially in the UK, on the label London Records the track storms the charts at the same time as M.A.R.R.S. “Pump up the volume” and “Theme from s- express”. More and more acid house influenced records come out and soon they dominate club culture. Of the time Robert wistfully remembers: “It was an incredibly exciting but also
very excessive time of my life with loads of wonderful moments and parties.” At the end of the 90s Robert withdraws somewhat in order to reflect and to reinvent himself. He begins to produce records as Atlon Inc and Dicabor, with an identity completely opposite to that of Rob Acid productions. The quality and the sound standard of these ambient projects become more and more important in his work and at the same time they improve it as he masters new equipment and techniques. In 2001 he meets Marc Romboy and Klaus Derichs and together they create a new platform called Shortcut Recordings dedicated to Robert’s club
tracks. After a period of calm and relaxed tracks it is now time to pump up the volume and raise the BPMs again. His productions become very technoish at this stage, moving away from his acid house influences. After Robert collaborates with Marc Romboy on the label Le Petit Prince, Romboy creates Systematic Recordings in the summer of 2004. He asks Robert to remix his first single with the Detroit legend Blake Baxter and to do a new version for Berlin’s house impresario Phonique. On top of that Robert starts to release singles on high profiled imprints like Kompakt, Treibstoff and Steve Bug’s Audiomatique. Those who are following Robert’s career over the years, know that his sound and the standard of his productions reach almost audiophile standards. No surprise then that many well known artists like Martinez, Minilogue or Gabriel Ananda request his special abilities for mastering their productions. One reason for his famous sound stems in part from his collection of old analogue equipment (even from the 60s and 70s) which Robert uses alongside his computer. Besides drum machines like the famous Roland TR808 and TR909, Robert owns a variety of unique machines like special effects and EQs the size of living rooms, some taken from German TV stations to edit their movies and crime shows. He even uses equalizers used by the
secret service and compressors used by East German radio stations. It is no wonder then that the sound quality of the album is both graceful and crystal clear. Tracks like “Sin” and “Loosing Memories” surprise with their club compatible deepness while at the same time moving between the genres of Electronica, Techno and classic House. ‘A Cheerful Temper’ is indeed a very special and genre-breaking album full of beautiful electronic club music. Please have a look on Robert ́s webpages not to miss one of his legendary live shows in your area. Apart from other producers Babicz does not play as a DJ but as a real live act without
any playbacks. Any of his shows is distinctive and individual as he never performs the same songs and sounds. Robert is on extended album promotion world tour in 2007.

The man was kind enough to send us a hour and a half mix that is just stupid good, so hopefully all of you guys will enjoy it as i did.

Dan Curtin

Dan Curtin began his music career in 1992. His fascination with music was sparked ten years earlier when he discovered the burgeoning hip-hop movement. Hip-hop, along with new wave, electro, and other sonic innovations of the Eighties began to loom largely in his life, and it was only a matter of time before Curtin began experimenting with music creation himself. When he finally heard the futuristic sounds of house and techno, everything changed. Drawing influence from stargazing evenings with a telescope and late night drives through nearby Cleveland, Ohio; music production became Curtin’s primary focus. Cleveland, a city not known as a hub for house music creation, was initially isolating. However, Curtin was able to observe the more prominent scenes of other cities without becoming part of or being identified with any one of them. He began designing a new sound in techno and house music.

Curtins first few records were released on Detroit’s now defunct 33 RPM Records and Belgium’s Buzz Records. Shortly thereafter, he started his own label, Metamorphic Recordings. Dancers and listeners alike began to take notice of his innovative sound signature, and before long Dan Curtin found himself being hailed as a key player in techno and house music. With his profile on the rise, he eventually caught the attention of Peacefrog in the mid 90s. His releases under his own name and his Purveyors Of Fine Funk guises were welcomed with open arms by the worlds techno fraternity, many of which becoming key cuts in many a DJ’s set for years following their release. Releasing three albums over a two year period ‘Silicon Dawn, ‘Web Of Life’ and ‘Art and Science, Dan Curtin has defined himself as one of the key players in the development of techno as we know it today.

His subsequent 12-inch EPs and remixes have continued to garner critical acclaim while moving dancefloors across the globe, appearing on playlists from Tokyo to Glasgow.

As a DJ and live act, Noah has travelled throughout Europe and North America, performing alongside such diverse artists as Funk D’Void, James Holden and Cobblestone Jazz. After working as assistant A&R for Consigned Recordings in Montreal, Noah applied his label skills by spearheading the Pacific Technics project, a triple-vinyl compilation benefiting Amnesty International. The Pacific Technics CD, selected and mixed by Noah Pred, was released in June 2004.

Exploring his compositional versatility, Pred launched the Shen project later that year. Geared towards digital downtempo, electronic dub and emotive IDM, Shen has provided Noah with a creative outlet for productions that roam beyond the borders of clubland. His debut Shen full-length, ‘Outlines’, was released on Native State Records in December 2006.

Now relocated to Toronto where he holds a DJ residency with the Fukhouse crew, Noah currently runs two record labels from his studio headquarters – Metapath Recordings: and Sentient Sound: Delving into the potentials of field recording and integrated sound design, Noah’s latest techno full-length on New Kanada, Ecocosm, was released in August 2007.

Most recently, he’s launched a new digital label, Thoughtless Music, with friend and long-time collaborator Evan Marc.

Tom Baker

Wiggle / Wrong / Brique Rouge / London

Like with many of his contemporaries it was the explosion of the heady acid house movement across London in the late 1980s that was to be the decisive influence over Tom Bakers musical direction. His earlier years growing up had been influenced by his family of Jazz musicians, and these new sounds pulsing from urban warehouses shook his musical belief system to the core. It was with this combination of experiences that he was to emerge with a focus for forward thinking, original house music, and an underlying interest in sonics, drive and dance-floor dynamics. Toms production work harnesses this ethos, producing solo or more commonly with Lawrence Mohammed. With so many releases currently filling the shelves of our record shops Toms production aesthetic is specifically of quality over quantity. His occasional releases enjoy a level of anticipation by his peers and consequently his music finds its way into the record boxes of DJs right across the Globe. This healthy attitude towards releasing and distributing his music is continued through to the close selection of record labels Tom has chosen his work to be delivered through. His debut release in 2003 was picked up by Terry Francis and Nathan Coles for their Wiggle imprint and subsequent releases have been signed to Brique Rouge and Wrong Recordings.

Xpansoul

Santiago Ferrer, also known as Xpansul, started djing in 1993. Since then, he has played in most of the biggest clubs and festivals all over Spain and Europe. Xpansul’s sound as a dj is techno, his sets are a journey through electronic dance music, in which the “axis” Detroit-Chicago-Berlin-Cologne is the driver and all his other musical influences are the passengers.

Since 1998, Santi starts writing and producing music as well, getting a really good response from the crowd and critics to his first releases on labels such as Audiodrome, Options, Isoghi, Syl.Label or Soundplant, sometimes working solo and sometimes with his partner Daweed.

In 2003 Xpansul starts his own labels Discos De Lata and MSX manged along Daweed and Miguel Mendoza respectively, which has taken him to a solid position as a producer and label manager on an international level, thanks to the success achieved by his releases on this labels and other releases on Software Records, Sindicato Records and Random Dynamics.

And it was back then when Xpansul met well respected producer Alexi Delano and they started a series of collaborations, both original tracks and remixes, that have been put out on labels such as Plus 8, Truesoul, Frankie Recs Trapez and Leftroom, taking Xpansul one step ahead in his already promising career.

From then on Xpansul’s calendar has become more than busy, hectic, showing his dj skills all over the world and receiving a great, warm welcome everywhere he’s gone. All this, added to his latest releases on Ovum, Soma Quality Recordings, Ad Ltd., Minuendo, or his own Discos De Lata have confirmed Xpansul as a true solid value in the electronic dance music scene worldwide, as an artist that is here to stay.

Well, lets get to the beats, this month im a very happy camper, since i have the pleasure of having as guest a duo from Berlin that is one of my personal favorites, yes i know, i always say that about all my guests, but let me tell you, this is one of my favorite producing duos there  is, i mean, they just freaking rock, dont you think?!?!

Exercise One (Lan Music / Mobilee / Exone / Berlin DE)

One is the loneliest number unless you’re talking about Exercise One, the Berlin duo of Marco Freivogel and Ingo Gansera. Proprietors of the Lan Muzic label and frequent contributors to Anja Schneider’s mobilee imprint, the two are quickly becoming recognized as key figures in Berlin’s rapidly revitalizing techno movement and as representatives of the scene’s enduring communal spirit. After meeting through jobs at !K7, the two soon began working together in a basement studio in Kreuzberg, where they shared the space with a rowdy crew of noisemakersLuciano, Memo and, for a time, Jeremy P. Caulfield. It was Caulfield who kickstarted Exercise One’s career when, after hearing one of their early live sets, he encouraged them to send out demos. Shortly thereafter, they released their first 12″ record, “Roll With You,” including a Jeremy P. Caulfield remix, on Mofa Schallplatten. In 2005, Exercise One launched Lan Muzic. Its debut release, the Kitchentools EP, included tracks by Exercise One and Memo alongside a Luciano remix; the record quickly found its way into discerning DJs’ boxes everywhere. Anja Schneider supported the project on her Radio Fritz show and then invited them to record for her own label.

“I bought my first record at the age of 14, it was a house tune. Armand Van Helden – you don’t know me is it called and i still love it. And ever since then there has been nothing except music in my head. Between 2003 and 2005 I focused my attention on producing audio material in the minimal/techno/house, nu-jazz, hip-hop, experimental and drum & bass genres. Besides positive aspects like the experiences out of the diversity of these different types of music. Soon some tracks had been released on Labels like Balkon, Stil Vor Talent and Traum records in Germany. In June 2006 I moved to Berlin to develop further. In September 2006 I found myself studying Music Technology in London what I am still doing. My label FLASH was set up in 2006 with one of my best friends: Berlin based DJ and producer Oliver Koletzki. We are a good team and do a lot of productions and remixes together, an important release is the remix for Rockers Hifi – pushpush on Greatstuff Records, which was released in December 2006. My current state of mind is developing my skills and preparing a new project involving a live act.”
