So, every now and again on my show I like to take time to recognise and showcase a mix from one of my many talented friends, label mates etc. This month I’d like to draw your attention to two very talented DJ’s, Navi and M.E.E.K.O., also known as Min//Max.  They put together an exclusive mix for Rhythmatic Sessions, and I’m proud to host this set. Here are a few words about Nick and Ivan aka Min//Max:

Both Navi and M.E.E.K.O. have their own styles and have played individually at many venues and events over the years. It wasn’t until March of 2009 when Min//Max was formed. Navi, who’s style is originally more minimal and M.E.E.K.O., who’s style is much more maximal, decided to become a duo and perform out live as ONE unit. Together these two notable dj’s combine to create a unique sound. This sound is what they call “T.H.E. Sound” (Techno.House.Electronic). They feed off of each others energy and have a knack for taking their listeners on a journey. Now that they have a growing feel for each others style, Min//Max plan on taking this musical partnership to the next level.

This edition of Rhythmatic Sessions will only contain ONE mix, but, it is a very special mix from a dear friend and very talented DJ. She put together a mix for me a couple of years ago when I hosted a show on Proton Radio and it was one of the most technically sound mixes I had the pleasure of airing. Her name is Buttakupp and you definitely need to be on the look out for this young lady in the very near future. Here are a few words to let you know what she is all about.

“Be sure to keep an eye and ear out for this Southern California based DJ. This well trained lil lady has been tearing up the dance floors since the late 90s! She has recently taken her show from the bright lights of NYC to sunshiny San Diego, bringing new ideas and plenty of heart!!! Buttakupp is known for her crazy energy, diversity, deep bass and heavy drops. She started out with a passion for drum and bass and has since evolved into a Techno Blend Diva. Russell Saltzman discovered his talent for dj’ing nearly seven years ago, after an extensive musical background, playing the saxophone and the guitar. Russell soon found a music that he would grow to love much more, progressive house.

In 1996 Russell helped co-found Sundance Productions, Lafayette, La.. This gave Russell the ability to help spread the progressive sound throughout the state by booking and playing with some of the world’s greatest dj’s including; Sasha, John Digweed, the Cream tour with Dave Seaman, Deep Dish, Jimmy Van M, Quiver, and Chris Fortier to name a few. Russell has also played twice at the infamous Zulu party held every year in N.O. by the Freebass Society.

By 1998 Russell and partner DJ Mendoza began their own record label, Sundance Records. Their first track “The Welcoming Sound” was released in April of 2000 and debuted 11^th on the Balance Promote Group chart and was also charted by Joanna Massive of Massive Records. In the future Russell plans to work more on production but he has been busy for the past two years running the Sundance Record store.

Saltzman’s resounding ear for music has made him one of the most talented up and coming dj’s today. Russell considers dj’ing a channel not only for creativity but for his imagination as well. He’s always open-minded and willing to learn more about the music in order to create a better understanding of the art of dj’ing.

Russell has recently relocated to Pensacola, Florida.  He has been playing at local venues, including opening up for Quivver in July, and playing in Tampa.

Well everyone it has been a long busy summer, and a long time since my last show. 2008 was a trying year, and the first half of 2009, though a lot better, has definitely taken a toll as far as being tremendously busy. Forming new partnerships for tampahousemusic.com, revamping the roster and the Re-birth of our “Swerve” nights has been a very rewarding experience. Unfortunately “Rhythmatic Sessions” took a back seat for far too long.
